Azureus Vuze

Azureus Vuze works well with Your Freedom but the configuration is non-trivial, simply because of Vuze's complexity and wealth of features. The images in this document assume that you are a TotalFreedom user; if you aren't, there are a few differences but they will be pointed out in the text.

The images enlarge if you click on them (but you should not need this).

Start Vuze. Then click on "Advanced" (top right corner). Choose "Tools", "Options". The configuration window will open. In there, choose "Mode" in the left hand side menu because you need to make sure that all the nifty options are displayed at all. Choose "Advanced" and click on the Save button.

The next step is to set up your connection. If you are a TotalFreedom user, check out the Profile panel in the Your Freedom client and choose one of the ports assigned to you. Set it up as a "server port forward" on the Ports panel. Both server port and local port should be the same, i.e. one of the ports assigned to you, and the local host should be "localhost" (in one word). If you are not a TotalFreedom user, server port forwards are not available to you and configuring them is useless.

Now click on "Connection" in the Vuze configuration window. Use the same port number as in the server port forward as your listening port for both TCP and UDP. (If you are not a TotalFreedom user the choice of ports doesn't matter.) Set all the other options as shown (this is the default).

Now click on "Proxy Options" (it's under "Connection"). If you are a TotalFreedom user, set everything exactly as shown below. If you are not a TotalFreedom user, tick the "Inform tracker of limitation" checkbox. Whether or not you tick the "Check proxy status on startup" is up to you.

You should enable encryption. To do this, click on "Transport Encryption" and configure everything exactly as shown below. This will try to always use encryption but fall back to non-encrypted connections for peers who don't support it. The fall-back will provide ability to connect to as many peers as possible, while the encryption ensures that there will be as little interference with your peer connections as possible.

It is recommended that you modify the transfer settings too. The configuration shown below is best suited for a TotalFreedom user; non-TotalFreedom users should set "Max connections globally" to 95 (EnhancedFreedom), 45 (BasicFreedom) or 17 (FreeFreedom). It is important that you enable "Allow multiple connections from the same IP" if you are a TotalFreedom user because all inbound connections will appear to come from the same IP address (127.0.0.1). For others this doesn't matter.

That's it! Everything should now be set up and you should achieve the best possible download and upload rates with Azureus Vuze and Your Freedom. Don't forget to save your configuration changes; you need to restart Azureus Vuze to activate the proxy configuration change.
